Develop brilliant ideas with these tips

Everyone has their special place where they can go to study, relax, or develop brilliant ideas.

This post is written to inspire people to go out, find that zone, and create ideas that will bloom into websites, designs, and blogs of their own.

 

Personally, my room at home is truly the only place where I can get away from people, the stresses of life, and the noises around me.

Everyone has their own special place where they can do the same. For some people, being around other people is their stimulus to develop brilliant ideas.

This can be in the library, where other like-minded individuals are being studious, or it can be in the busiest place on campus with very loud rock music blasting in their ears.

Still, for others, generating new ideas is an arduous process of going back and forth to find their niche where they can focus.

Once you find this special place, it is essential to know exactly how to start planning out what you’re going to create.

For websites, blogs, and designs, the first steps to developing ideas are generally the same, however they start to branch out once you get more in-depth with content. These steps will help you brainstorm ideas and then expand on them.

 

1 . Find time for writing or designing

 

This is the step that most people get stuck on. “I’ll write a bit in my blog later tonight when I have time” or “I need to work on something else first”.

These are common phrases that I always hear from people who are “serious” about starting their own blogs and websites. Sometimes I have this problem as well. Nobody’s perfect.

 

The key to avoiding saying these phrases to yourself is to dedicate time to writing your content. For me, I try to spend at least two hours a day specifically writing content and developing ideas for this blog and others. That’s in addition to going to the gym, class, and homework.

Starting out, you may only need an hour to get in the right place to come up with ideas for posts. Other times, you can only dedicate 45 minutes to writing.

The point is to write at least a little bit every day, and ideas will eventually come naturally and the words will flow.

 

2 . Write realistic goals

 

It is so important to create realistic goals, then write them down.

This will ensure you have a firm action plan to stick to when dedicating time to write your blog posts. You will also be more motivated to stick to your goals by writing them down.

By writing your goals in a structured manner, you will have an outline that you can use to develop your ideas into first-rate posts or designs. Ask yourself, “what do I want to accomplish?” and “what purpose am I writing for?”.

For example, do you want to write blog posts helping people in their daily lives? Or do you want to create designs for a website? By answering these questions, you will be able to find your niche, or what you want to write about. Read more about setting goals here.

3 . Find your niche

 

Now that you have found time for writing or designing and you have written your goals down, the next step is to find your niche.

Finding your niche means to find what you want to write about or design for. This could be literally anything, however it is generally advisable to write about a topic that you see people need more information on.

This creates blog posts that your target audience can relate to. It is also advisable to write on a topic which interests you. This will allow you to create content that is clear and concise and won’t leave the reader feeling confused about your niche.

Your end goal here should be to create a niche for yourself that you either know a lot about or that can be researched in order to find more information. This will convey to the reader that you are knowledgeable about the topic and that you took time to create a quality post or design.

 

4 . Brainstorm for your writing

 

Once you find your niche, you should brainstorm about potential topics to write about that are included in your niche.

I like to use pen and paper to structure my ideas, however bubbl.us is an awesome mindmap and brainstorming tool due to its simplistic design and ease of use.

Whichever your preferred method to brainstorm your ideas, the goal is to create a structured map of your ideas so you can create a logical and informed blog post.

 

5 . Research, research, research!

 

Unless you’re an expert in your niche, chances are you will have to research your topic eventually.

Research is key to developing good content and you will become a lot more knowledgeable about your niche at the same time.

Research can be from any source, depending on how in-depth you want your blog post to be. Try to get research from more reputable sources within your niche because those sources will give you more reliable information.

As always, do NOT directly copy from other sources as that can land you in some major legal trouble over copyright infringements.

6 . Put it all together

 

So you have brainstormed and researched on your potential topic. Once you think you have enough information to start writing, well, start writing!

While creating your content, it may be necessary to go back to previous steps and brainstorm or research more. That’s completely fine! You want to make sure that the final product is polished and clear. Also make sure that the paragraphs follow a logical order (throwback to grade 10 English class).

For example, you want to have your main ideas in the first paragraph, then write about each idea in the subsequent paragraphs. If you already have plenty of ideas, don’t be afraid to write them how they make sense to you, then edit them after you get a basic structure to your blog post.

 

7 . Edit, edit, edit!

This step should be within every other step above. The whole process of writing or designing revolves around editing your content.

No post is ever perfect, however you can make it as close to being perfect as possible by looking closely for words that can be changed and long sentences that can be made more concise.

Make sure all the sentences and words flow and that a reader won’t get confused about your meaning.

It helps to read your whole post aloud, which makes it much easier to notice mistakes or jumbled sentences. Getting another person to review each post also ensures any mistakes you might have missed are corrected.

 






8. Post your content!

 

Once you have your blog posts or designs, you need to get it out to your readers. You can use sites like Blogger or Tumblr, however I’m a big fan of using WordPress to create a custom site, and then to post my content on there.

WordPress is a powerful tool that allows you to pick from many different themes that cater to almost
every purpose.

Within each theme, many customization options are available, allowing you to create a site that will attract readers. There are also many plugins available, offering a range of options such as optimizing images and speeding up your site.

You also want to find a reputable hosting company where you can setup a domain name for your site. I recommend SiteGround for price and reliability.

Overall, writing or designing content can be a long (and frustrating) process that will leave you wanting to give up.

If you stick with it, you will find that writing and creating a site is actually a very rewarding process. You will feel proud to have a product that you created, filled with content that you put time into creating.

If you post regularly and have engaging content that serves a purpose, more and more readers will read your content. This means you can work on monetizing your site and you can also earn a steady income.

Such a brilliant article you just wrote Jesse! Very well said and put together all the things we need to create a valuable blog. It’s funny how you suggested to ask somebody to check our blog before we publish it. I always read it myself first, then I ask my daughter to check and correct the grammar if it is necessarily. I do that because English is my second language and I never ever did any English school here… I’m very lucky with my daughter. She’s very nice and we are a great team!

I think a big component is being able to find a quiet space where the mind can be free to create. It’s hard to do with constant distractions and interruptions.

You offer a good numerical list of handy tips here to get the most out of the creative writing process. Your points are almost like a plan in themselves.

Thanks for taking the time to read my article! Everyone has their own ways of getting in their space and developing content, and that is what is key to churning out excellent posts.

I believe everyone suffers from writer’s block, on every single blog post. For my blog posts, sometimes it takes me multiple days to write them, as I want them to be perfect before I publish them. I overcome writer’s block by taking a pause from my writing. This sometimes can be a few hours or a couple days, but it’s essential to do something else to clear your head and start thinking on what to write next. Personally, I like to go workout or even just for a walk where I can let my mind wander on new ideas for content.
